Today was the US release date for a movie starring TWO Academy Award winners…

Say hello to Virtuosity, starring Denzel Washington (who had won best supporting actor for ‘Glory‘) and Russell Crowe (who would later win for ‘Gladiator’ – and lose to Denzel when they went up against each other in the ‘A Beautiful Mind’/’Training Day’ year).

When this was released, Russell still wasn’t very well known in the United States. The only “American” movie he had under his belt at this point was ‘The Quick and the Dead‘ which was released a few months before, and people likely went to that to see Oscar winner Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone and Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio.

Don’t worry! Give him time! He’ll make his mark!
