We normally don’t cover TV appearances, but we figured this was a little different and worth a shout-out!
Five years ago today was the airing of the third season episode Streets of St. John’s on the CBC series Republic of Doyle (all six seasons can currently be seen on Netflix). Specifically, the episode featured not only Russell Crowe, but Kevin Durand (Mystery, Alaska; 3:10 to Yuma; Robin Hood) and Alan Doyle (Great Big Sea, Robin Hood) According to IMDB, the episode synopsis runs like this: “Sergeant Jake Doyle is assigned to protect a mob informant, but when a mysterious group of men impede him, Jake finds the tables turned – himself the target of a manhunt.”
The series itself is categorized as a ‘police procedural’ and starred Allan Hawco as former police officer turned P.I. Jake Doyle and Seán McGinley as his dad, Malachy.
An interview with Russell can be seen here: https://youtu.be/760qhElmemI
The series opening theme Oh Yeah is performed by Great Big Sea.
As I’ve mentioned, the entire series appears to be on Netflix for those of you with that capability. It can be found on DVD in Canada; Acorn Media has the initial two seasons on Region 1 (USA), and something called Beyond Home Entertainment (Region 4) has the first two seasons available for Australia.
