July 2008 Update

July 17th, 2008

Greetings one and all!

Sharon Ferguson, webmaster, here…first of all, my apologies for the delayed update this go around. You would think summer would free things up to the point where we’d have the time to get more done, but life seems to just get more hectic. Thank you all so much for your submissions and your patience! We’ve had such a grand time reading through them and getting them ready to go up! So without FURTHER delay, I bring you:

Crowe’s Point:

Meggie Ward is our newest arrival at the Point with her AE Bethanie Fischer’s story “Somewhere In Between Here & Gone” - can this be love for Jeffrey Wigand? Welcome to the Point, Meggie!

Layne Richards’ AE Rebekah Logan returns to the Point in chapter 2, drawn by a “Bad Connection“, one she has difficulty explaining to herself, much less to the residents. How will Ben respond?

Tina continues development of the new life that Adalia Robinavich, the Point’s gourmand chef, is leading in “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.” Who is the man that will win her heart?

Also by Tina - a very serious complication for John Biebe’s wife begins in the spring of 2006 - “Benign Confusion.”

Chloe Navratil finds herself at the hospitality of quite a few of the Boyz in Chapter Three of “Ashokan Falls” - but the one that turns out the most appealing is the one who is not part of the crowd at all.

In our Singles Section:

Taffey gives us two new stories for our Single Character Section:
“His Maker Can Wait” takes us back into the dusty streets with our beloved erstwhile gunslinger, Preacher Cort
The Princess” - Jack Aubrey finds himself at odds with a rather pampered bitch.

Kaz also gives us Chapter Five of her popular story featuring our favorite SAS man, Terry Thorne - “The Price of Freedom

Scarlet, a newcomer to the Gaslight, gives us “Can I Touch You?” a Hando-centered piece.

Layne Richards presents Ben Wade with an “Unexpected Opportunity

Jo Anzalone, of Libris Crowe, offers two singles, one entitled “Ritchie Roberts 6.7” the nanobot-generated creature known as SID 6.7 finds a way to exact revenge upon Denzel/Parker; and the first chapter of “A Thorne Remaining,” a haunting romance.

In Multiple Characters:

Jo Anzalone & Sharon Ferguson bring to us the story that instigated the ongoing saga of the characters that inhabit NanoCorp SubSIDiaries, Inc. “If It Were Not So.” Many people dream of getting into the movies. At NanoCorp, you get exactly that.

Also a part of the NanoCorp series, three more chapters to the cross-over piece “X Proof” 4,5, & 6 - The FBI’s most unwanted agents find out some very interesting things about the men who run NanoCorp, and Terry finally reveals to Deidre the motivations behind his continued presence at the company.

For our Challenges

Tina adds another chapter to her ongoing Point adaptation of the movie “Laura.”

Other mentions:

A new Wikipedia site called Fan History has begun as a compendium for the various media that have gained fandom, and Russell Crowe has his very own page with the various links of known fan sites, including the Gaslight and others you may be familiar with. The link to this really cool site has been added to our links page.

Tina has also generated quite a bit of corresponding information to go along with her stories centered around Adalia - in the Miscellaneous section, under “Adalia’s Kitchen” a list of the recipes that she uses in her Shabbat meals. This page has a lot of potential for some interesting contributions!

One final note: the contacts page has been updated to list the most recent and active emails for the people who run the Gaslight Gateway. If you have questions about anything on the site, please feel free to contact one of the emails there!

Please sit back and enjoy our stories and if you should happen to be inspired to join our group, let one of us know and we can ‘point’ the way! (All right, you know I had to make a pun of it somewhere. Jack would approve!)

Best regards,

Your ever-tinkering,

Sharon

Site Address Change

April 23rd, 2008

Because of a file clean-up and rearrangment for the last update, the url address for gaslighthotel.net got slightly changed. If you note on the homepage, the file extensions read GASLIGHTHOTEL/home.html . This is now the current url, whereas before, the extension read “gateway/home.html”. I know it is annoying to have to go in and change a link; however, if you rewrite your link to the Gaslight to simply read : “www.gaslighthotel.net” - the link will automatically take you to the Home page, and the extensions aren’t necessary for your link and any future changes in the files (I dont plan any!!) will not affect your link.

I apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Thank you,

Sharon Ferguson

webmaster

It’s That Time Again…UPDATES!

April 16th, 2008

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to everyone and a very good Wednesday to you all!

To those of you in the United States, I hope you have survived Tax Day intact so you definitely deserve a break.

To those of you elsewhere…you’re getting a treat as well.

So to help us start what is “hump day” for many folks and just plain old midweek for others, we want to announce that we have a new bunch of updates to the site! We have Bud White, Ben Wade, Cort, Jack Aubrey, Terry Thorne, John Biebe. We have original character fic. We have new photos. We have updates to the Point couples list.

So kick back with your beverage of choice, settle into your favorite chair or wherever you like to relax, and get ready for what we hope will be some great reading.

And remember that the next update will be in May some time (we’ll give you a more exact date as we get close) so if you would like to submit your own story for consideration, give us a shout! We’d love to give it a look!

Happy Reading!

Changes

April 15th, 2008

Good morning to everybody, and as your Gaslight List Mum fights a migraine sinus headache today (as well as e-filing her taxes) I just wanted to pass on what’s going on today and this week! Thanks in advance for reading this. And to our Gaslight Tavern and Gaslight Hotel Yahoo group members on Special Notice only, you will be sent a copy of this separately through the group servers so that you don’t miss it.

First off, as with many things here lately, we are undergoing a lot of changes — we think for the better…and one of them is that we have a new moderator at the Gaslight Tavern. Most of you know Sharon — who has been a member since 2005 and is a big Jack Aubrey and Cort fan. She is now joining Beej as one of our moderators, so if you can’t reach one, you can try another! Sharon — I don’t know if you have ANY idea what you’re getting yourself into, but welcome to moderating…and be very, very afraid! LOL

Second — look for the next series of updates on the Gaslight Hotel Gateway tomorrow, 16 April 2008. We were trying to figure out a good date, and I suggested the sixteenth…so that all of us here in the States suffering from Tax Day headaches will have something to enjoy after you’ve electronically sent that e-file or dropped it off before midnight at your nearest post office! Kick back with your drink of choice and enjoy what we have to offer. More later.

Next: Trisha — who was a Gaslight Tavern moderator and member since its’ inception — is no longer moderating the group, and since she’s more full-time over at the Moonlight Hotel, has departed the Tavern. Best wishes!

Concerning the Original Gaslight website

April 9th, 2008

Good morning and good afternoon and good evening to everyone! And let me thank you up front for reading this lengthy message.

Some of you may have heard the news already, but for those of you that are on perhaps only one group, we wanted to make sure you got the information. And as I think Mark Twain once said, falsehoods can often circle the globe several times before Truth has a chance to get one leg in the trousers…or something like that!

Anyway, the news is that as one thing retires, another appears in its’ place, to take up what was originally started. But we don’t see it as the end of an era, but a new Phoenix rising from the proverbial flames! This is just to let you know that NONE OF US — NOT ME, NOT BEEJ AND NOT SHARON AND DEFINITELY NOT GASLIGHT — ARE GOING ANYWHERE!

Michelle — the original founder of the Gaslight Hotel website — contacted Trisha and me yesterday, and informed us that the original site ONLY will be closed as of the end of this week. Although Michelle has not been involved in Crowe fandom for the last few years, out of the goodness of her heart, she has been keeping up the maintenance on the original site. But these things do get expensive, and the original Gaslight had a good deal of bandwidth to cover. It is quite understandable that she can’t handle the cost on her own any longer, so she is going to let the original site go BUT ALL OF THE STORIES ON THE SITE HAVE BEEN SAVED BY HER. (More on that later).

Beej, Sharon and I want all of you to know that when we emailed you all a few weeks ago, announcing the birth of the Gateway site, it was as a sister site to the original Gaslight. At the time, it was never intended to take its’ place — it was to encourage new writers and old ones that they had a place to return to or to visit for the first time, so that they might start writing single character fiction, Crowe’s Point fiction, multi-character, or perhaps create an original character of your own. However, since Michelle is closing the original site, it seems like a work of Fate that while the big sister is leaving us…Gaslight will be reborn in a baby sister.

We didn’t know at the time that Michelle would be doing this, and I’m grateful that the woman and a fandom which gave me and many others a reason to write again will always be there, even if it’s under the new name. We are going to carry on the tradition and it very much is a tradition.

Gaslight Hotel will continue as the Gaslight Hotel Gateway at www.gaslighthotel.net — the gateway site that was announced back in February. It will live — as intended — in the spirit of what Michelle started. We will continue to add older stories, we will continue to add stories that were not posted to the original site, we will continue to add new stories. The Crowe’s Point universe is a part of all of this too, and I’m proud to say, still is garnering interest from old readers, old writers and potential new writers.

Now this is what I need for you all to do: if you have any type of stories on the original site (www.gaslighthotel.com), check all of the contents immediately and see if you have anything there. If you do, then Michelle will have it saved for the time being, and Beej and I will likely be getting all of these from her to backup as well. (Your work isn’t going to be lost, I promise ).

Maybe now is the time for you to update something you wrote way back when, or to finish something you started, or to do a complete rewrite. Having your story back in your hands — if you desire — will be the chance! (I may even rework something myself! ). We just need to know if you want your story reposted as part of the Gaslight Gateway site, because that will now be our repository. If you wrote something that was non-Crowe related, you might wish to post your story at the Moonlight Hotel website (contact Trisha for more information), but if you want your Crowe related work and of course your Crowe’s Point stories to be available once more, then Beej, Sharon and I will be more than happy to give it a home on GaslightHotel Gateway.net.

And I am sending out this message to even those writers that I have not heard from in years. Beej, Sharon and I want to welcome you back if you’d like to rejoin the Gaslight family. When we started the Gateway, it was so we could bring fresh life to something we loved and it’s worked! We have heard from so many of you that have either discovered Gaslight or rediscovered Gaslight, and we appreciate all of your kind words. What is happening this week — what we began in February — is simply making us work harder to keep that dream a reality! This is our passion — as I said earlier, we are not going anywhere! We are REACTIVATING  something that had fallen into an unfortunate lull and has been dormant for way too long.

Contact us at webmaster@gaslighthotel.net, BiebeBabe@gmail.com, aubreyesque@yahoo.com, TinaII2None@aol.com, or brolga@sky.com if you have any questions.

Folks — because of you we have a growing group and a website that will continue something I loved — and will continue to love — to be part of. Thanks so much for reading all of this! And as our Savannah would say *massive hugs*

Tina and Beej  and Sharon

Gaslight Gateway being updated soon, so……

April 8th, 2008

So if you have anything you would like to include for next week’s update, you have until this coming Saturday afternoon (5 PM Eastern time) to get it to us.

That includes your fiction, poems, your drawings, character photographs, whatever you think we might like to publish, and if a story isn’t completed yet but you have a nice amount to submit, then please feel free to do just that. We only ask that your beta work be completed and that if you have anyone to credit it is mentioned — something we greatly appreciate!

And not to worry: if you don’t have anything ready for this April update, we’ll be updating again in four to six weeks or thereabouts, so you can start planning for then!

Send your submissions to Beej — our chief reviewer — at brolga@sky.com or our main email address at webmaster@gaslighthotel.net.

If you have any questions, they can also be sent to webmaster@gaslighthotel.net.

Remember that the Gaslight Movie Challenge will be running pretty much through the summer. If you have any questions about it, please let us know! We’d love to see what you produce.

Thanks for your continuing support. We’ll be happy to hear from you, and remember, we love your feedback too!

Keep the creative juices flowing now!
